An Operating System is the low-level software which manages a computer system. It handles the way the hardware operates, the communication with peripheral devices like a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between applications, along with the prioritization of apps if multiple ones run at the same time. Each and every program that is installed on a desktop or a notebook functions by sending requests to the OS for various services using an application program interface (API). The contact with the OS is possible using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the hosting field, the Operating System is what controls a web hosting server together with all the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also any other application such as a VOIP or a game server. If there're virtual machines created, they use a guest OS that is run on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS

We provide as many as three different Linux releases for the Operating System of our virtual private servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the safest and the most reliable OSs out there and we provide all three of them rather than just 1 because we realize that you might want to install some software that has specific requirements regarding the Operating System it will run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a large support community behind it and there're various software packages you may install on the server. Your OS selection will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS if you would like to use one and that is why we offer several Control Panels as well. If you ever decide that you need another OS, our tech support can quickly wipe the present one and set up the one that you need. In addition, we offer an optional service to maintain the OS on your VPS updated weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting

We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server plans - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They are all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they're 100 % free and they won't increase the low price of your new server, but also because they are really secure and stable. Each of them is backed up by a big community of developers, so you'll be able to choose from many hundreds of software packages that you could install on your server in case the application that you would like to work with has specific requirements. The Operating System will also determine what hosting Control Panel you can use as the Control Panels that we offer run on particular OSs only and since we want to provide you with as much adaptability as possible, we offer multiple OSs and multiple Control Panels. If you get a server with a given Operating System, we could change it upon request in case it turns out that you will need alternative one. We will also keep the OS updated on a weekly basis as a part of our useful Managed Services upgrade.
